Praying for those in Authority!

Congratulations to President Obama for a second term in office.

I have always taught our children to be supportive and pray for whomever is in authority over us (whether it would have been Romney or Obama) as the scripture teaches. Whether we agree with all the policy details of one candidate or not, we have to remember that the heart of a king (whether the President of the U.S. or a King in a remote country) is in the hand of the Lord, and God has the power to turn his heart whichever way He wants. (Proverbs 21)

I am also reminded of the scripture Romans 13:1-8 which sums up how we should view our leaders overall in Government.

Romans 13

Submit to Government
1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. 7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.

Therefore, Love Your Neighbor

8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

One can not deny that it has been expressed the need to bring our country together and to bridge the gap between what divides.  God is sovereign; and His word is true in Psalms 75:6-7 as it states promotion comes not from the east or west, it comes from the Lord.

We are hopeful, and prayerful for what our next years will hold in store, and we must continue to be prayerful for God's divine protection over all of our leaders for all eyes are on America right now.  May God richly bless you on this day as our President is sworn for another term in office while yet many others commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
